Introduction
Architecture is all about people’s experience of space, within the medium of time. What truly connects us to architecture is the movement of our body through space. Movement is nothing but the body within time, while time gives life to space.
Hsuyuan Kuo and Effie Huang have pursued the concept of “space in time” with passion and bold experimentation. Their process of design involves both dialectical conversations and outright arguments, as well as mutual support, encouragement, and love. Through this process they create both their “space in time” designs and a deep connection with us.
The Space in Time exhibition showcases Kuo and Huang’s architectural work over the past 25 years. They have searched for opportunities, even in almost impossible contexts, and sought inspiration from the ordinary things of daily life. In so doing, they have created small but beautiful examples of spatial imagination, growing out of the tiny cracks of the city, and making our daily lives better as they discover the endless possibilities of space in time.
By embracing the four elements of “a sense of place,” “interior and exterior,” “pathways,” and “the envelope,” they provide a design methodology for contemporary Taiwanese urban architecture. They invite us to feel what they feel, and to experience with them the meaning of life within architectural spaces.
