Kuo + Huang and Associates

Founded in 1998 by partners Hsuyuan Kuo and Effie Huang, KHAA is an interdisciplinary architectural design firm based in Taipei, Taiwan. Our major works are rooted in Taipei and consist primarily of urban residences. Nevertheless, within the reality of real estate’s profit-driven calculations, we hold fast to the conviction to “shelter daydreams and safeguard dreamers” in every act of creation.

Till today, KHAA has achieved numerous extraordinary accomplishments, including the winning of JCD Design Award, Good Design Award, and FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards, as well as multiple nominations for the Taiwan Residential Architecture Award. In 2010 and 2015, we received the Golden Pin Design Award for Skylake Reception Center and Eslite Hotel. In the same year, 2015, we were also honored with the Taiwan Outstanding Architect Award. In 2019, we won both the Far Eastern Architectural Design Award and first place in the Taiwan Architecture Award with our project Folio Hotel Daan Taipei. Four years later, our designs Center of Art and Technology, TNUA and Keelung Taiping Elementary School received first place and the Special Award for Architectural Regeneration in the Taiwan Architecture Award. Most recently, in 2024, our work The Great Shine won first place in the Taiwan Residential Architecture Award.

From urban planning to architectural and interior design, the practice of KHAA is deeply rooted in studies of everyday life and design, guided by our core philosophy, “Exploring Possibilities.” Although our firm does not adhere to particular standards or styles, we still produce works that are instantly recognizable and endow each project with a unique set of contextual considerations and Eastern aesthetics.
